YAZ LAWSUITS

As of October 2011, there were over 11,000+ lawsuits in the US relating to allegations of personal injuries from the use of DRSP (drospirenone) birth control pills. Trials are scheduled in ealry January 2013 in front of civil juries. The FDA, in September 2011, publicly recognized a growing 'concern' over the risks posed by these drugs. A meeting of an advisory panel scheduled for December 2011 addressed the risk of blood clots from these pills and conflicts in emerging data and science. The pills narrowly survived a 'market withdrawal', or 'recall', and are now expected to carry stronger or enhanced warnings in the future. FDA action on the stronger warnings is expected in 2012.
